- SME Product Promotion and Export Consulting Conference with KCON 2017 JAPAN
□ The SME Product Promotion and Export Consulting Conference with KCON* held its fourth event this year. This year, the conference upgraded itself with K-wave marketing in collaboration with SM and JYP, and events with local online creators.
* A global K-wave festival organized by CJ E&M, which brings together business conventions and concerts under the slogan, “Everything about K-Wave.”

□ The Small and Medium Business Administration of Korea (SMBA; Administrator Young-sub Joo) and the arge & Small Business Cooperation Foundation Korea, Rural Affairs (Secretary General Hyeong-ho Kim) has been implementing the project in collaboration with CJ E&M to promote export through culture marketing and cooperation among large and small businesses since 2014.
* Sales promotion and export consulting for SMEs with KCON‧MAMA: (2014) 2 sessions → (2015) 3 sessions → (2016) 4 sessions
◦ For this year’s event, 51 promising SMEs were selected among more than 200 candidates, which is the largest number of candidates to date. The selected SMEs are engaged in beauty, fashion, consumer products, and contents businesses, which are highly compatible with K-wave marketing.

◦ The selected SMEs were able to introduce and sell their products to some 50,000 local visitors, and get a first-hand look at the reactions of Japanese consumers.
◦ The export consulting session with around 150 Japanese buyers created the foundation for entering the local B2B market and distribution networks.
◦ The conference also featured pop-up stores carrying the products of 33 companies which participated in the running guarantee-type product placement (PPL) project implemented in cooperation among SM C&C, JYP Entertainment, and the SMBA. The pop-up stores served as vehicels for K-wave marketing during the conference.
□ A new addition to this year’s conference was K-Studio, a studio dedicated to promoting Korean SME products. Local online creators and K-wave stars collaborated on-site to create introductory videos for the products.
◦ During the three-day event, 20 local influencers* offered video creating performances using Korean SME products, drawing the attention of numerous visitors at the site.
* Personalities on social network service platforms with massive following who set the trend through their contents
□ An SMBA official said, “KCON has set a widely used model for promising SMEs to expand overseas by cooperating with K-wave platforms and larger corporations.”
◦ The official also added, “The SMBA will enhance cooperation with private institutions and other related entities and our support system for K-wave marketing, to provide SMEs with more opportunities to utilize marketing opportunities presented by K-wave and achieve significant outcomes with their export operations.”
